took the picture with the iPhone at the new Apple Store in San Luis Obispo, CA. We are out of town with our friends steve and mignon west and just got back from the beach. San Luis is home of Cal Poly University, a very well known college for engineering out here. Gotta Go!
I have been meeting with a nutritionist buddy of mine since last September. Actually, he felt as though I got the whole deal and that I just needed to keep following the plan, so we haven't met in almost 3 months now. I'll have to go in so he can measure my body fat. But today, I hit a milestone. 25 pounds.
Back in September I weighed 259 with 24.35% body fat. I know you think 259 sounds big (well, it was), but with that body fat calculation, if I was 0% body fat, I would've weighed like 196 pounds! He said that was impossible, even on my deathbed. I am just a big guy; I have really broad shoulders (48 Regular Suit Size) and a decent amount of muscle mass (it weighs more than fat) although you can't tell. My little brother always used to say that I have "old man strength". I'm not ripped, but I could lift 3 people at one time. The reason for the non-rippage...fat.
So, 8 months later. I have healthily (minus that stupid master cleanse thing i tried) lost 25 pounds, gone from a 42 waist pant to a 36, and feel better than ever. Even my swimsuit from our honeymoon 6 years ago is too big now!
My body seems to responding better than ever. The last couple weeks have been about a 2 pounds a week. I plateau-ed for quite some time, where it was taking a lot to do a little, but it's refreshing to step on the scale every morning at the gym and watch it go down half a pound.
I haven't talked too much about this, because I wanted to make sure I could actually do it and I still want to lose about 20 more pounds to get me around that 215 area. That's where the nutritionist said I should aim at least!
I wasn't actually considering the iPhone for myself until I saw this. For 59.99 a month I can email, call, and text message. I pay 93 right now for my Blackberry! I'd save 33 a month, over a year, that's 400 dollars. not too much different than the price of a normal cell phone now! now I just gotta see if I can get out of my current contract...
One of the other gifts that I got for my birthday was this game, Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam. My brother and his fiance, Jessica gave it to me. Jacinda's at bible study right now, I put the girls to bed awhile ago, so I've been playing for the last hour and a half! woo hoo! They also got me the new "Instant Karma" album of contemporaries singing John Lennon's songs. I have to admit, I don't recognize half of the songs or artists, but some are really good. Plus, I guess Earl can cross me off his list.
This is what Jacinda got me for Father's Day/My Birthday. It's a 50mm f/1.8D lens for my Nikon D70s. Why you ask? Since it's a fixed lens, the opening is much larger, letting in so much more light. You can take a picture in a poorly lit, room and it will come out brighter than it looks in real life! Plus the speed of the lens captures really well. I can't wait to take some sunset pictures in Hawaii with it. Thanks honey!
As you probably know, my birthday was last week on Father's Day. A couple of the people I work with were out of town, so the 7 of us celebrated on Thursday by going to Sakanaya, a new really good Tepanyaki place. While our chef was tossing around an egg, they handed me a birthday card. I figured, that is cool, they didn't have too.
Sidenote: it seems as I get older, I appreciate what others do more and more.
anyway, I open up the card signed by everyone and then some cash falls out. Then I read this on a piece of paper they printed up: "For Your Birthday here's a gift we thought you'd enjoy for you to use on your oahu vacation
you wanted to go for horseback riding this is the idea we've been hiding
a trail ride along sand beaches and tropical forests for two we've pitched in and covered the cost for you!"
How freakin' cool is that. Jacinda and I have always wanted to do this and now we are. I was amazed at not only the generosity, but the thoughtfulness of this gift. I had mentioned it several months back, but hadn't booked anything. now, we are going for a sunset horseback ride for 90 minutes off of the Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore of Oahu. Too cool. Thanks guys!
